Trends and effects

This week we focused on 7 trends of families. These 7 trends include; Divorce, Cohabitation, Marriage age, Employed moms, Living alone/house hold sizes, and Birthrates. In class we looked at a lot of statistics. One being that 20% of first marriages end in divorce while 60% of second marriages end in divorce. I really think its interesting that if you get divorced once, more then half will go through it again.  Understanding that divorce isn't something that happens one day, we looked closer at what could ave been a big cause of it. Then there's the broader look on marriage itself. After the 1960's more women had sexual encounter's before marriage, and when sex was no longer connected with reproduction then marriage changed too. Because of this, cohabiting increase while marriages decreased. Some people thought this would actually save them from divorce. Therefore not really valuing the image of a family. Those who did cohabit, because they got married later, had kids later on in life and in consequence were only able to have a few. So by trying to avoid divorce a couple cohabits, when they feel they "go together" well they then get married. This heightens the marriage age and also because of the fewer amount of children it effects the house hold size. If you noticed, every decision effects the next possibility. What we do now not only effects the people around us but also the generations to come. Families are important. When our civilization no longer values family's, that is when they will realize how important they really are.

Hey, my name is Cheyenne Patrick. I have started this blog for my Family Relations class. I am a first semester student at Brigham Young University Idaho and hope to major in Family and Marriage Studies. This blog will be for my thoughts and what I learn in class. I hope to gain a better knowledge of what a successful family is and hope it will help me in my future.
